  • Obituary: The Herald Patriot, October 30, 1924, Chariton, Iowa.
With deep regret we note the passing away of Mrs. Lars Johnson, which occurred in this city at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Tella Evans, on October 25, 1924, at the age of 78 years, 8 months and 24 days , after an illness of several months' duration. Largely attended funeral services, conducted by Rev. M.S. Clark, were held at the First Baptist church on Monday, after which the remains were laid to rest in the Chariton cemetery. Anna Catherine Anderson was born in Sweden on February 1, 1846. She came to America and located in Lucas county, Iowa, in the year 1882, where her husband engaged in the mining industry. The principal part of her life has been spent in Lucas county. In the fall of 1865 she was united in marriage to Lars Johnson. To their union ten children were born; six daughters and four sons. Three of whom, 2 sons and a daughter, preceded the mother in death. Those surviving are Mrs. Thomas Evans and Mrs. Evan Jenkins of Chariton; Mrs. Watkins of Kansas City, MO; Mrs. J.W. Luke of Buxton; Mrs. John Skinner of Lucas; Annie Johnson of Montana; Albert Johnson of Melcher, IA. Mrs. Johnson was converted shortly after she came to Lucas and united with the Swedish Baptist church. She has been a faithful servant of the Master since the time she gave herself to His service. She was ready always to suffer the cause rather than to see it languish. During all her affliction she sang the old familiar hymns and prayed to her savior. Although advanced in years her going leaves a vacancy that can never be filled, but her life work will linger in the memory of her loved ones which will be a solace and comfort to them. Besides the family above named she also leaves to mourn 30 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren, besides a host of friends. To all the sorrowing ones the sympathy of the community will be extended.
